Theatre For Performance Art and Education

Sawubona Creativity Project: Theatre For Performance Art and Education is a community theatre where kids, teens and adults can learn and experience all aspects of theatre arts like; improv, acting, playwriting, musical theatre, storytelling and performance. Our 10-week SEL-infused classes and workshops take place at our site in South Philadelphia.

Our goal is to create a space where diversity of thought, creativity, and wellness can be amplified through arts education and performance.

Class Descriptions

Actor’s Toolbox: Voice, Body and Imagination Acting Class: how actors use emotions to tell a story. Some emotions push us towards our scene partners while other pull us away!

Improv: improv, is a form of live theatre where everything is made up on the spot. Think of shows like, "Whose Line Is It Anyway." Improv is spontaneous, entertaining, and fun. (grades K-12)

Acting: students will learn the same acting techniques that the professional performers use when preparing for a role. They will then use those skills to memorize small pieces of dialogue from published plays. (grades K-12)

Musical Theater: students will be tasked with memorizing small pieces of dialogue and musical dance numbers from their favorite Disney/Pixar movie. (grades K-6)

Playwriting/Storytelling: students in grades 7th-8th will learn playwriting concepts; like the Hero’s Journey to craft an original play.

Registration Open Now thru June 16th-10 Week classes culminate in a final demonstration/performance!

ONE DAY THEATRE CAMP

When schools are closed our theatre is OPEN!

Campers spend the day, improvising their own dance routines, writing original skits and learning scenes from popular Disney movies and Broadway plays! The day concludes with a showcase!

Our Community Expectations and What To Expect

Full Day Camp (8:30am-3:30pm): $45 per student/per day ($40 for current students) (showcase at 3pm). Previously enrolled students sign up below. For all new student’s registration paperwork must be completed. In order to secure your child’s spot payment must be submitted at time of sign-up/registration. Sign ups open 2 weeks before One Day Camp Date.
