Sawubona Creativity Project: Theatre for Performing Arts and Education is a community theatre located in South Philadelphia. We are looking for Teachers Aide to assist with our theatre programs for kids in grades Pre-K through 8th grade. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage with young performers in a creative and supportive environment. You will assist with theatre-related activities and workshops, provide student engagement and support, as well as handle light housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and organized space.
Job Status: Contract Position - Beginning March 2025
Rate: $16/hr
Location: Sawubona Creativity Project, 1626 E. Passyunk Ave #1
Part-Time/Flexible/Varies: Sundays 12:30pm-2:30pm, Mondays 3:00pm - 6:00pm
Other Hours: One Day Camp (dates vary) 8:30a-5:30p
Spring Break April 14th-18th 8:30am-5:30pm
Summer Break: June 16th-27, July 14th-25, August 4th-15th 8:30am-5:30pm
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Assist Teaching Artist with the setup, supervision, and facilitation of theatre programs, including acting exercises, games, and rehearsals.
Safely monitor and supervise students at all times.
Work with parents and other staff members to ensure a smooth and supportive program for all participants.
Empower and encourage student engagement by participating in the theatre classes alongside students.
Provide guidance and support to children, helping them engage with theatre activities and building their confidence.
Ensure a safe, respectful, and positive environment by helping manage children's behavior and providing constructive feedback.
Help prepare, organize, and distribute art supplies, costumes, and props for activities and performances.
Assist during performances or showcases by helping students backstage, managing props or costumes, and ensuring smooth transitions.
Provide additional hands-on support during community events, workshops, and shows.
Perform basic cleaning duties such as sweeping, sanitizing surfaces, organizing spaces, and ensuring materials are stocked and ready for use.
Maintain an open line of communication between staff members.
Assist with any additional tasks as needed to support the program and ensure a positive environment for the children.
QUALIFICATIONS:At least two years prior experience working directly with elementary aged children; ideally in an educational or extracurricular setting.
Strong interpersonal skills to engage with children and communicate effectively with parents and colleagues.
Ability to manage multiple tasks, including program support and housekeeping duties.
Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs and participate in physically active tasks.
Ability to remain calm and patient in a busy, dynamic environment.
Ability to collaborate with other staff members to support program success.
Flexible availability, including after-school, evenings, and weekends for program sessions and events.
Over the age of eighteen and successfully complete PA background check.
